CELEBRATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY BY YOUNG MOTHERS AND IDLE GILRS TRAINED IN CRAFT BY THE NGO ACPDI

Created in 2005, the NGO “Action des Communautés Payssanne pour le Developpement Integré” (Action of Peasant Communities for integrated development) aims to contribute to the socio-economic promotion of the peasant community. ACPDI campaigns for the well-being of peasants through Food Security and Nutritional Promotion, Rehabilitation of Road Infrastructure, Social Protection and Promotion of Peace, Health, Water, Hygiene and sanitation; Environmental protection and humanitarian assistance. It is located in Butembo city, Vutetse Quarter, 67 Visogho Cell, Democratic Republic of Congo.As one of the non-governmental organizations member of the DRCNDF, ACPDI works in the promotion of gender through the sensitization of young mothers and idle daughters on the themes of promoting peace, the fight against global warming but also the learning of crafts .

The situation of young mothers and idle daughters in the Ngeleza health area

ACPDI carries out the support project for the socio-economic reintegration of marginalized and unemployed young people as a measure to promote peace in the health area of ​​Ngeleza, Territory of Lubero, North Kivu province in the DRC. This project is carried out in 14 villages in the Ngeleza health area including BUNDO, KYAVIRIMU, KIRUNGU, KYANGIMBA, KIRIMBUNDA, VUVANDE, MUHIMBIRA, VULEKYA, KINYE, LUBWE, KINYATSI, MAHAMBA, MUMBO, MWISE which count 11353 inhabitants corresponding to 1793 households (average size per household of 6 people per household) containing 1,567 marginalized unemployed young people, including 545 teenage girls who gave birth early and had 708 bastard children under their care, 522 young idle girls, 477 idle boys and 14 ex-combatants. The number of 1,567 unemployed and marginalized young people represents 13.8% of the total population of 14 villages in the health area, while ignoring the 708 dependent children of girls who give birth early.

Solutions proposed by ACPDI to the problems of idle mothers and daughters

As part of the implementation of the support project for the socio-economic reintegration of marginalized and unemployed young people as a measure to promote peace in the >Ngeleza health area, the number of literacy learners is 400 distributed in the three training centers including the Lubwe/Mihake center, the Ngeleza/Katalio center and the Kirungu center. At the Lubwe/Mihake centre, 120 learners are progressing with literacy training, among whom we counted 50 girl mothers, 45 idle girls, 20 idle boys and 5 ex-combatants. At the Ngeleza/Katalio centre, 142 learners are continuing their literacy training, including 51 girl mothers, 64 idle girls, 23 idle boys and 4 ex-combatants. At the Kirungu center, 138 learners have been registered and they are continuing the literacy training. We counted 48 girl mothers, 60 idle girls, 25 idle boys and 5 ex-combatants.

Celebration of International Women's Day

A staff of 561 young people among whom we count 397 women and 164 men participated in the celebration of the day of March 08 dedicated to the emancipation of women in the KIMWANA-KAWA hall of Mihake under the organization of ACPDI. Indeed, given that ACPDI advocates strict respect for gender in these interventions and that the majority of beneficiaries are girls, of whom there are 318 in the Three craft training centers on this day under the national theme “Egalitarian digital education for peace and the empowerment of women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo”. Given the socio-security situation, a sub-theme and/or provincial theme was set up and focused on the subject of education “new information technologies in the service of peace and the resolution of community conflicts”. During the implementation of the activities of the celebration, the participants were first made aware of the importance of planting fruit trees to fight against global warming and malnutrition because most of them were early mothers.

This is how the presentation of the theme of the day followed, a debate with questions and answers which edified the participants in this ceremony and most of them came out happy and satisfied.Participants were taught how women can rationally use new information technologies to build lasting peace in the DRC and advocate for egalitarian digital education throughout the community.
